Saturday 30th November 2019 saw the thanksgiving celebration of old students of the first and oldest girls’ school in Nigeria. Former students of the UK and Europe Chapter of the St Anne’s School Old Girls’ Association (SASOGA UK) painted the town purple as they attended a thanksgiving service at St Mary Magdalene Church in London, to mark the 150th anniversary of the founding of the school.
It was a time of happy reunion, thanks and praise to God. The departed were also remembered.
The service was officiated by the chaplain to the Anglican Nigerian Communion in the UK, the Venerable Joe Ajaefobi, and the sermon by an old girl a Licensed lay Minister and Anna Chaplain, Mrs Funmi Makanju. It was a service that was by the old girls, for the old girls.
Worship was led by Ms Omayeli Odeli, Mrs Toyin Taiwo and Mrs Peju Anyreka, whilst the intercessions was given by members of the old Girls prayer Chaplaincy Mrs Foluke Moses and Mrs Bimbade Ewetade - all old students. Reminiscences of school life were provided by Dr Remi Anteyi.
